Foodstand Puts the Spotlight on Good Food

The New York Foodshed is among various destinations in the country budding with artisanal producers, makers, and growers. We live in a time where people are becoming more conscious about what they’re eating, where they’re buying food, and the values behind what’s on their plate.

Good food entrepreneurs are on the rise and deserve a platform to elevate their story and grow their businesses. Foodstand is their platform, connecting pioneers with a growing community of eaters who want better options. Foodstand is growing the online hub via the Foodstand App, and offline with events such as Foodstand Spotlight, a monthly event series featuring the newest and the brightest in good food.

The Spotlight series kicked off in NYC, hosting local entrepreneurs in what we call a “loving version” of Shark Tank in October. The event gives the community of food renegades who are going to change the system a place to connect and support each other, which is a core component of Foodstsand’s mission. At every Spotlight, good food entrepreneurs get the floor for 10 minutes to present their product, background, and three key questions on which they would like feedback. The audience then provides live text-to-vote answers, which we live-stream for everyone to see. Meanwhile, a panel of experts deliberate and provide feedback and ideas to help the entrepreneur take his or her idea to the next level.

Our past spotlights have been held in partnership with Slow Money. We featured food tech entrepreneurs:

Ben Silverman of Edenworks

Dave Katz of Farmers of New York

Kunal Shah of Add Salt To Taste

CJ + Ben + Alexa of Thrive.Menu

to Food Production Businesses:

Chef Antonio Ortuno of Garlic & Parsley’s

Yana Gilbuena of The Salo Project

Miriam of Paleo Choco Dream

Our expert panels have boasted leaders from Kickstarter Food, Fleischers, MilkTruckNYC, and Slow Money. The evening culminates with warm networking, where guests leave with a whole roster of connections to strengthen their involvement in the good food movement.

We have a waiting list of entrepreneurs for the upcoming spotlight on December 15th, but you can purchase a ticket here.  If you know someones with a budding food business, or have one yourself, you can apply to present or share your perspective as an expert here. Our experts for the evening include: Jimmy Carbone, Mike Lee, and Guillaume Lebleu.

We can’t wait to meet you.

In the meantime, here are some photos from our last Spotlight event:
