One in four Americans lives with a diagnosable mental health disorder — yet stigma still prevents millions from speaking about, and connecting over, these shared experiences.

Purpose believes in the power of storytelling to break down stigma and inspire hope. On Thursday, May 28th, we are marking Mental Health Awareness Month by hosting an evening of storytelling about mental health.

We’re honored to feature storytellers Peter Aguero of The Moth and Daisy Rosario of NPR, photographer Jenn Ackerman presenting works of visual narratives on mental healthcare in Kentucky State Prisons, and a performance by the cast of NYU’s The Reality Show. We hope that you’ll join and help us in shining a light on the power of opening up.
