This month, CNN named “new power” as one of the “CNN 10 Ideas to change the world.”  These ten ideas were lauded as emerging concepts that have the potential to change how we live.  New power was recognized for its innovation alongside revolutionary ideas like predictive technology, water conservation, and body cameras for police.

New power is a framework developed by Purpose co-founder & CEO Jeremy Heimans and Henry Timms, founder of #GivingTuesday and executive director of 92Y. The framework was the “Big Idea” in the December edition of the Harvard Business Review, as well as the topic of Heimans’ TED Talk, featured on Ted.com.

CNN’s “10 Ideas” article  is entitled “How new power is upending the status quo,” and focuses on how this kind of power shift affects politics and business.

Of new power, CNN author Brandon Griggs says, “a form of ‘new power’ is rapidly emerging, one with the potential to mobilize millions and upend venerable institutions.  Aided by the Internet and mobile technology, new power is open, participatory and more transparent.  Think Kickstarter, Uber, or even the recent #BlackLivesMatter protest movement.”
