Foodstand, the good food community app, recently came out of beta this past October, featuring thousands of food lovers, growers, chefs and farmers—sharing and connecting around good, healthy food.  Co-founders Rachna Govani and Udi Falkson demoed at the New York Tech Meetup, showcasing some of the key features of the app, including photo sharing and ingredient tagging and search.  Check out their talk below:

This past month, Foodstand activated its community to take collective action and pledge a #NoFoodWaste November, which culminated in hundreds of everyday no food waste ideas from the community—from sauteeing your broccoli stems and greens—to replanting your sprouting onions.  The campaign itself had a large social reach—bringing in 200,000 views across social channels.  The campaign involved a partnership with Dig Inn, one of the fast casual restaurants here in New York and Sustainable America’s “I Value Food” campaign.  The campaign culminated with an event at one of Dig Inn’s locations and featured short talks by Jeremy Kranowitz, the Executive Director of Sustainable America; Chief Forager of Dig Inn, Matthew Preston; Brett Mons from the Department of Sanitation; and Laura Rosenshine from Common Ground Compost. “I started composting again after that event,” two people had said to Foodstand afterwards, “Thank you for that.”

Starting next month, Foodstand will begin designing brand new features on their app to facilitate deeper engagement between community members.  “We’ve been encouraged by our community to create more substantial ways for them to connect with one another since traditional social streams are not allowing for that.  We’re eager to fill that gap,” says co-founder and CEO, Rachna Govani.

We encourage you all to download the app to be a part of the community and the conversation. The app is available on iPhone and will be made available on Android in Q1 2016.
