This week, on the anniversary of the ADA, Purpose is proud to partner on the launch of We Will Ride, a coalition campaign from disability groups pressuring automakers to create accessible autonomous vehicles.

The lack of accessible transit options is a huge issue for many of the 1 in 5 Americans with disabilities, millions of whom either can’t drive at all, or require costly after-market modifications to their vehicles — because no major automaker yet makes a fully accessible vehicle.

The campaign launched with an open letter to automakers from the coalition groups and also features a number of powerful and eye-opening personal stories from people with different disabilities about the challenges they face in transportation.

The campaign also features shareable content that highlights the magnitude of the transportation-related obstacles facing Americans with disabilities.

The We Will Ride Campaign was founded by leaders in the disability rights movement to ensure that the coming transportation revolution of autonomous vehicles reaches its potential to serve all Americans. They work to develop a constructive conversation around the needs of Americans with disabilities and how automobile manufacturers and other key institutions can meet them.

The current coalition members include: American Association of People with Disabilities, National Council on Independent Living, Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, United Spinal Association, and Paralyzed Veterans of America.
