Dramatic Ad from Everytown Depicting Domestic Violence Makes Local and National News

A woman’s desperate 911 call starts a scene that quickly spirals out of control. Her ex—who we learn she has a restraining order against—is literally banging down her door. In the moments that follow, the new ad from Everytown for Gun Safety shows a struggle and an eventual gunshot as the woman tries to pull her son away from his father. We’re not sure what happens next, but we are sure that this violence could have been prevented, if only her ex had been kept from buying his gun. And that’s what Everytown is pushing for federally: new gun legislation targeted at abusers and stalkers.

The campaign, which is running in Washington, D.C., Nevada, Arizona, and New Hampshire, encourages viewers to contact their senators and show their support for Senator Amy Klobuchar’s (D-Minn.) bill, which bans convicted abusers and stalkers from possessing guns.

The ad has, along with the Senate Judicial Committee meeting, sparked awareness, debate, and even controversy. It has been covered locally, from Las Vegas to L.A., and has been featured nationally in the Huffington Post and USA Today and on MSNBC, among many other outlets.
