History is made and records are broken every year at the Olympics. This year, however, history is being made before the games even begin: for the first time ever, the International Olympic Committee has created a Refugee Olympic Team to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics.

Purpose has partnered with UNICEF and UNHCR to build a global fan base for the Refugee Olympic Team. #TeamRefugees needs you to show your support for them, as they, like all refugees, are incredibly courageous and resilient.

Watch this video for one #TeamRefugees fan story:

This momentous event is taking place at a time when 65 million people are displaced in the world today, many of whom are children. Ten world-class athletes, forced to flee their homes due to violence and persecution, will be able to compete in the games and by doing so, send a message of hope to displaced people around the world.

We need you to show your support for Team Refugees, especially in the lead up to the start of the Olympics on August 5 and during the first week of the games.

Here is how you can show your support:

  1. SHARE: use the hashtag #TeamRefugees and share fan club content, including our #TeamRefugees campaign video, social graphics and our official website, on your social media pages; share, retweet, and follow #TeamRefugees on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and Snapchat (@TeamRefugees)
  2. SIGN AND POST: throw up the #TeamRefugees hand symbol and post a photo or video of your visual support with the caption #TeamRefugees
  3. CO-CREATE: If you have a great idea, be it a song for the team and fans, dedicating a performance to the team, or designing a product for the team, contact us. There are no limits to the support we can show for this incredible team and its fans! (contact teamrefugees@purpose.com)

So let’s show our support for a team of seriously dedicated, resilient athletes, competing on behalf of their fellow refugees.
